Mr. Udula Bandara Awsadahamy

Mr Udula Bandara Awsadahamy is an Architect by profession and is presently the Chairman of the Institute for Construction Training and Development (ICTAD) and thus appointed a Trustee of the Construction Guarantee Fund.

He has extensive exposure and experience in the fields of architecture, built environment and indigenous construction technology, having served many reputed government and private sector organizations, namely : CECB, Ministry of Plan Implementation, Suchith Mohotti Associates, UNESCO Cultural Triangle and Sarath Surasena Associates in the capacities of Chief Architect, Project Architect, Interior Designer and Documentation Artist of several projects.

Out of the major works of architecture authored by him so far the following public commissions are eminent namely: Hostel Complex-University of Peradeniya, Veterinary Teaching Hospital-Kandy, Hostel for the Bachelor Nurses-Nawalapitiya, Ayurvedic Hospital-Rathnapura and Matale, Information Technology Centre-Kandy, Auditorium(arena type)-Polonnaruwa, Court Complex-Nawalapitiya.

The Special projects in which he was involved were Mobile Theatre-Janakaraliya, Tribal Museam-Mahiyangana, Iran-Sri Lanka Friendship Monument-Wellawaya, Arena Theatre-Janakala Kendraya-Colombo and Vegetable Market-Nuwaraeliya.

Mr Awsadahamy also has to his credit the Project Proposals forwarded namely –Water Heritage Centre Concept Proposal for Water Museum and a Study Centre to showcase and dissipate the knowledge of the ancient reservoir buildings, agro landscape design principles of Sri Lanka and related socio-practises, which has been accepted by the Department of Irrigation and Mahaweli Development in the year 2000.

He has authored several books and published the book titled ‘WEWA’ in Sinhala in 1999 on ancient irrigation technology.

He has also served as a Member of the National Water Policy Drafting Panel in August 2004 and compiled and presented a series of 20 minute Documentary TV Programmes on National Television Network-Rupavahini from 2004 to 2008 on ‘Water Heritage of Sri Lanka’.

He is also a nature lover, environmentalist and rich in knowledge of the ancient irrigation systems of Sri Lanka.
